“There’s always a lot of tension in a divorce,” a source says.
Divorces can be a messy business, so Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas intend to keep things “positive.”
A source spoke to People about how the former couple is focused on having a “collaborative” relationship dynamic as they continue to navigate their divorce.
“People are trying to be negative towards both of them, but they are trying to keep things as positive as possible knowing there’s always a lot of tension in a divorce,” the source told the outlet. “They’re two incredibly scrutinized people. This is incredibly stressful for them, but everything between them has been very collaborative.”
For instance, the insider explained that Turner and Jonas’s sale of their Miami home was a “coordinated” effort and “they made a profit on it.”
“It was something they both wanted to do,” the source continued. “Everything has been very collaborative. The sale of the house wasn’t in advance of a divorce specifically as sometimes people do, but it does make it easier.”
The couple confirmed their split in a joint statement shared to social media on Wednesday. “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the message reads. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Their nod to “speculative narratives” seems to refer to the multiple stories that have circled the internet since TMZ broke the news that Jonas had retained a divorce lawyer last weekend.
Source for TMZ suggested that the stars’ “different lifestyles” led to the split, claiming, “She likes to party, he likes to stay at home.” Another TMZ insider added that Jonas had access to Ring camera footage of Turner “saying and/or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over.”
Whether or not there’s any merit to these claims, an insider previously told People that the divorce didn’t come as a surprise to those close to the couple. “They were not separated but they’ve been living separate lives for months,” they said. “As far as custody goes, this literally all just happened, so they’re figuring it out in real time. They did have a prenup. As a family, they were based in Florida. The kids were with him the last few months, traveling with him with family while he’s been on tour. Sophie’s been working in the U.K.”
