As a Christian, your faith is not merely a label you wear; it’s a way of life that should set you apart from others. The word of God offers guidance on what should differentiate you as a Christian. Here , we will explore some key values that the Bible teaches to distinguish you as a follower of Christ.
Love One Another
In John 13:34-35, Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” Love is the cornerstone of the Christian faith, and it should differentiate you in the way you treat others with compassion, empathy and kindness.
Humility
Philippians 2:3-4 emphasizes the importance of humility: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” We are called to be humble and selfless, putting the needs of others before our own.
Forgiveness
In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus teaches about forgiveness: “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” As believers, forgiveness should characterize your interactions, demonstrating God’s grace to others. Forgiveness should flow out if you effortlessly, sometimes it may not be easy but God will help us to forgive others and let go of grudges.
Faith and Trust in God
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that “without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Your unwavering faith in God and trust in His plan should distinguish you in a world often marked by doubt and uncertainty. The bible says that when there is a casting down; we shall say there is a lifting up… even in the thickness of difficulty, let your faith in God remain unmovable.
Moral Uprightness cum Righteousness
Christians are called to uphold moral standards set by the Bible. Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruit of the Spirit, including love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These qualities should manifest in your everyday character, differentiating you as a person of integrity thereby portraying you as a follower of Jesus Christ.
Sharing the Gospel
Matthew 28:19-20, known as the Great Commission, instructs believers to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Sharing the gospel and living a life that reflects Christ’s teachings is a fundamental way Christians distinguish themselves, as they seek to bring others into a relationship with God.
In Conclusion, being a Christian goes beyond a title; it is a commitment to a life characterized by making a positive impact on the world around you. Your actions and attitudes should reflect the transformative power of faith in Jesus, differentiating you from others and drawing them closer to God’s love and grace.
I’ve always been fond of saying Christianity is a lifestyle, not a religion. Your behavior alone is one of the greatest tools for evangelism.
