Chefchaouen is a town in Morocco that’s known for its blue-painted buildings. One of the top things to do in Chefchaouen is simply to wander around the town and admire the architecture. The medina or old town is full of winding streets and alleyways that are painted in a variety of shades of blue. It’s definitely a photographer’s paradise.
Another popular activity in Chefchaouen is shopping in the souks or markets. You can find everything from traditional Moroccan clothing to handcrafted jewelry and pottery.
The Kasbah
One of the most popular things to do in Chefchaouen is to visit the Kasbah. This fortress was built in the 16th century and it’s now a popular tourist destination. You can explore the grounds including the gardens and the museum.
The Grand Mosque
Another popular attraction in Chefchaouen is the Grand Mosque. This beautiful mosque is decorated with intricate tile work and it’s definitely worth a visit. And nearby is the Ras El Ma spring, where you can take a break and relax.
The Spanish Mosque
Another top thing to do in Chefchaouen is hike up to the Spanish Mosque. This mosque is located on a hill overlooking the town and the views from the top are incredible. The hike is a bit of a challenge but it’s definitely worth it. And on the way up, you’ll pass by a waterfall and a few small villages.
The Restaurante Triana
There are also several restaurants in Chefchaouen that are worth checking out such as my personal favorite, the restaurant Triana my favorite which was established back in 1979, when I was born! Just like me, the restaurante Triana has stood the test of time. A well-positioned bar where you can relax and enjoy a drink from the bar, a coffee or experience some high-quality cuisine. La Lampe Magique is a popular option as well, serving traditional Moroccan dishes in a cozy atmosphere. And La Petite Chef offers delicious French cuisine.
