When was the last time you did something for the first time! For me it was recently during my trip to Morocco where i had a Moroccan Hammam Bath for the very first time.
A hammam is a traditional Moroccan spa. It is a place to relax, unwind and detoxify. Hammams are known for their pampering treatments: they offer hot steam baths called Hammams. This experience to me was wild but i like trying out new things so i had to give it a go; because somebody else giving you a bath is something I’ve not done in my entire adult life but it was definitely worth it.
A visit to a traditional Moroccan hammam bathhouse is an unforgettable experience!
Here’s what you need to know before you go.
- First, you’ll need to bring a bathing suit or towel, as you’ll be required to wear one while in the hammam.
- Secondly, you’ll need to be prepared to get wet and to get scrubbed down with a traditional kessa glove.
- Thirdly, you’ll need to be aware that Moroccan hammams can be quite steamy and hot, so it’s important to stay hydrated and take breaks if needed.
Once you’re ready, you’ll be taken to a changing room where you can undress and store your belongings. After changing, you’ll be escorted to the hammam itself, which is typically a large, marble-tiled room with a hot and cold pool. You’ll be provided with a kessa glove which is used to scrub away dead skin cells and impurities.
The hammam attendant will also apply a Savon noir which is made from olive oil and crushed olives. After being scrubbed down and rinsed off, you’ll be led to a room where you can relax and rejuvenate while staying refreshed.
I really enjoyed it! it was a fantastic experience because I had a bath and a massage session and I would definitely do it again and will encourage everybody to try it at least once. I love the fact that Moroccans are very intentional about their skin, their skin is so beautiful that I kept staring at the skin of the lady that worked there, I even had to buy their body oils they used on me because it made my skin so soft like baby’s bumbum😂😂
