A Call For Applications; How to Apply for the Ada Johnson Scholarship

In the last three months, I have had to replace the water heater in my home, fix the AC system that stopped working when the temperature in Houston is over 100degF outside, and suffered true a truly horrendous travel experience. Add this to the fact, that I have received less than $350 in total donations but have already given out $400 in our 1st Ada Johnson Scholarship/Seed Money Award for 2023.

Please donate to our scholarship fund today & share with family & friends to donate.

One of these 4 mishaps is enough to make me cancel the the other 3 awards I planned to give away this year, but I have decided to prevail against all odds because this is truly my character. I never give up. I will give 3 more Ada Johnson Scholarship/Seed Money Award in 2023 and details for the next one is below to give my new followers an opportunity to participate.

  1. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity
My name is Okeke Kelechi Chidiebere, a footwear and thrift vendor with a high School Certificate
From the bustling streets to the online marketplaces, I’ve carved my path as a passionate footwear and thrift vendor, armed with nothing but a high school certificate and an unwavering zeal for growth.I embarked on this journey driven by a desire to make my mark in the business world. Each day, I am fueled by the passion to learn, adapt, and succeed in an ever-evolving industry.
As I reflect upon my journey thus far, I find solace in the fact that my life has been deeply rooted in the core values of honesty, hard work, hope, loyalty, and charity. These values have not only shaped my character but have also become the driving force behind my pursuit of academic excellence and personal growth.
Honesty has been my guiding principle, as I believe that true success is built on a foundation of integrity and truthfulness.
Hard work has been my constant companion, propelling me to overcome challenges and reach new heights. From balancing part-time jobs while studying to consistently pushing myself to exceed expectations.
Moreso, I am a firm believer that hope is the spark that ignites progress, and I am committed to carrying this torch forward.Loyalty is not just a word but a commitment to stand by those who have supported and believed in me. I have always valued the connections I have built, whether with mentors, teachers, or peers. These relationships have taught me the significance of mutual trust and support in achieving personal and collective growth.

Receiving a $400 scholarship as a vendor with a high school certificate presents a valuable opportunity to strategically invest in my short and long-term goals.

    My Short Term Goals
Skills Enhancement: I consider using a portion of the scholarship to enroll in relevant online courses or workshops that can enhance my skills as a vendor. These courses could cover topics such as entrepreneurship, marketing, customer service, or financial management. By improving my skills, I’ll be better equipped to provide exceptional products and services to my customers.
Equipment Upgrade: I’ll allocate a portion of the scholarship to upgrade my equipment or tools. Investing in better-quality equipment will lead to improved efficiency and product quality, which may result in increased sales and customer satisfaction.
Marketing and Branding: I’ll use a portion of the scholarship to invest in marketing efforts. This will include creating a professional website, improving my social media presence, or designing eye-catching business cards. Effective marketing can help you reach a wider audience and attract more customers.

    Long-Term Goals
Business Expansion: Save a portion of the scholarship to contribute towards my long-term goal of expanding my vendor business. Like opening a physical store or launching an online store, having a financial cushion can help me take the necessary steps towards growth.
Further Education: Am interested in acquiring additional skills and knowledge to diversify my business offerings, Am considering using a portion of the scholarship to take courses related to my industry. This would potentially open up new revenue streams and increase my business’s sustainability.
Networking and Partnerships: I’ll Allocate a portion of the scholarship to attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events. Building connections within your industry can lead to partnerships, collaborations, and valuable insights that contribute to my long-term success.
In summary, the $400 scholarship can be strategically utilized to enhance my skills, invest in my business, and set the foundation for long-term growth. By allocating funds towards skill development, equipment upgrade, marketing, business expansion, further education, and networking opportunities, I will maximize the impact of the scholarship on my vendor business and work towards achieving my short and long-term goals.

I believe I am the ideal candidate for this scholarship because my journey embodies the very essence of the core values it champions. My commitment to honesty, integrity, hard work, hope, loyalty, and charity resonates deeply with the scholarship’s mission. Moreover, my track record of consistent performance, coupled with my dedication to giving back to the community, showcases my unwavering determination to make the most of the opportunities presented to me.

In conclusion, as I stand at the crossroads of possibility, I am humbled by the chance to continue nurturing the values that have guided me thus far. This scholarship would not only be a recognition of my efforts but also an investment in a future that holds promise and potential. With utmost gratitude, I look forward to the opportunity to continue embodying these core values as I strive to make a lasting impact on the world.

  2. Adaobi Esther Chikelu

    I’m grateful ma’am,for this opportunity.
I am Adaobi, Esther Chikelu. I am from Oyi, Anambra state and I am a student in the department of Educational Management at level 300. I was born on February 1st, 1999.My studies is part of my pride which is one of the reasons why I am applying for this scholarship. Currently, my CGPA is 3.26 which I plan to do even more better through my studies and completion of my major in Ignatius Ajuru University Of Education. I am the only daughter of my family which consists of my three brothers and my parents who had separated while I was in JSS 2 and I’m a christain who holds a leadership role in my church as the zonal drama leader.Through my growth into adulthood, I have been through a lot of experiences as a teenager, I had to start working immediately I concluded my senior secondary school which I’m grateful I did because I got to learn the act of been responsible for things and people. It helped me learn how to work with people, think critically, apprehen things and execute. Firstly, I lived with my aunt from JSS 2 to SS 1 because at that time we couldn’t meet up with our rent. I wasn’t able to attend SS1 first term due to the fact that I was sent to the village over financial reasons. During the second term, I moved to Port Harcourt to be with my mother and continue to live with her.
As the years went by, I started to work hard to raise money to help at home while my mates went to the university and graduated. I have worked as a minder, a nursery school teacher, and a sales person during the covid19 pandemic.I progressed to working as a cleaner in people’s houses during the weekend till date to help raise funds for my school fees and textbooks until the major family I was earning from more.moved out of the country.Fortunately, I finally got into the university and I made a promise to myself to work hard, which is why my studies are my pride and why I am applying for this.I grew up to be someone who knows what she wants and go for it.I started this school journey with some friends but majority of them has dropped out due to funds and low grade but because I know this is what I really wanted, I never gave up. I kept pushing because it has always been my dream to be the best teacher there is and hopefully own my own establishment with time.

I am currently approaching my finals by October and the funds from the scholarship are needed to help me graduate. Through the funds, I will pay my fees which is between 70,000-80,000. Apart from my fees, I will purchase textbooks which will assist my studies and grades, which falls under the budget of 60,000-65,000 for the both semesters. My final year project is fast approaching as the months go by and I do not have a definite source of income to help me in the coming months. The funds will help in making my project a success and to graduate with flying colors as promised to myself. Also, I am a very lucrative individual who believes in making a means for themselves. Which is why, with whatever is left of the funds, I will put it into my business, Ceea events; an ushering agency I started last year but still not able to stand yet because there are a lot of things I’d love to put in place and make it different from others, so it’s presently not functioning. Through the business, whatever profit made will be used to also assist my siblings in their career choice and education. This opportunity to be funded with $400 to complete my education will be one of the best thing that will happen to me this year and a thing of joy for my family.I believe I can be lucky and hope that my reasons will make it possible. Thank you.

I have been doing everything myself right from time no support and I’m the type of person who works hard for something than begging for it and things hasn’t been easy for me but I have hope in getting a bright future.

I was always bullied in school has being the favourite human among the rest and I had low self esteem until someone stood up for me and spoke to me to stand up for myself and ever since then I’m one of the boldest, confident and high self esteem youth you would ever get and that made me took a decision to do public speaking to youths like me who has low self esteem and help them in areas like that but it’s once in a while I do this and sometimes I do private speaking to a youth and my high self esteem brought me this far in life.

I have been working but it’s not enough for me to go to an aviation school or being a tech girl because I really love tech.
I enrolled in ekwutosinam Ada nsukka tech coaching class march 2022, I can prove it but I was unable to get a laptop after looking for means to get one but I was unable to.

This scholarship would help me alot for me to get into an aviation school to become an air hostess because it has been my dream for a very long time now, for me to get a laptop and also begin tech. I’m a very bright student.

  10. My name is Chiekwene Awele (Ije-AweleUwa) Vivienne Wisdom. A young Nigerian who just turned 20. I just finally got admitted into the University of Benin early July though I graduated late in 2020. I’m a little of a nerd enthusiast and lover of God.

The values of ‘Ada Johnson Core Values’ are part of my own values. Since graduation, I’ve put in as much effort into myself to learn skills to support myself since I could not go to school. I put in the hard work to learn hairdressing and worked in a small shop for a year before it was relocated too far from my location. I also work actively in church in the choir, and off-service as a media member. I tried my hands in graphic designing because my church didn’t have any means of making good designs which was always a hassle, so I dabbled in it and I am really getting better at my skills.

I also have the dream of being an established writer and work as the main blogger at Skulive Digitals. I have always been honest in my blog reports and don’t take advantage of the flexibility given to me by my boss to make posts that favour me illegally such as switching links, spreading false news, etc) I also started a little Review Blog that I work on during the holidays which I believe will grow exponentially.

I’m also active in community service and volunteering as it’s something I grew up in and absolutely love doing because I love to see people happy. I created a mini foundation called S.P. CHAMPIONS in April 2022 (Instagram: @spchampsng) that focuses on destroying the distance of oppurtunity between kids from special families like me (single parent, orphan, abusive, etc).

I created S.P. CHAMPS because I realized not a lot of children in my circumstance have the oppurunities I do. I am privileged to have a mum who is still okay, access to food and shelter of liveable standard, a church that loves and encourages us and helpers who might spring up when things get severely bad. I want to be a parent to kids like me and let them know that there is someone out there who cares about them and all hope is not lost because a parent is gone. Even if I do get told it won’t be possible to run such based on my financial capacity, I do hope to build it up to a mighty establishment as I grow . For now, our service is tailored to creating free education for students from SS3, which we do virtually via WhatsApp and in person. So far I have gotten up to 13 volunteers and 9 part-time volunteers who all help teach students for free as we don’t charge for classes. We have impacted 172 students in the past year in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Civic Education, Further Mathematics, Literature, Government, Fisheries and it’s a really big deal to us. (I tutor in school to support myself, but our secondary school students receive completely free tutoring, access to textbooks donated to us, past questions, etc) My big dream is to also create funding oppurunities for these students someday and classes to learn skills to support themselves. I believe that with consistency and faith, anything is achievable to stick to our ideals of the organization.

The Scholarship funds would go a long way for me personally and I hope to pour some into S.P. CHAMPS. I would use the funds to complete my school fees as my exams are fast approaching. I would also use it to help my mum in paying for my sister’s who graduated in August. It would take a huge Buren off her shoulders a bit so she won’t have to dig into her capital this year as the recent school law by the federal government spiked school fees by more than 200%. The remaining funds will be split into two: A bit for my mum to expand her business. She is a widow and has a small shop where she sells snacks and soft drinks. She has always wanted to expand partially into wholesale and a little extra capital is all she needs to fulfill this dream as the sudden rise in our education costs really affected her business.
Secondly, I hope to pour in the funds to S.P. CHAMPS. We have a lot of dream projects which we are having difficulty materializing because of finances. It would also indirectly help support other kids. I hope to expand our outreach to SS1 and SS2 students by next year, but getting volunteers who can do this with little to no payment is a tad difficult at the moment. I also have the goal of creating a business that will be linked with us so that funds will be coming in steadily to assist us from growing sluggishly and crumbling.

I believe I should be chosen as one of the winners because I intend to pass on the torch if goodwill to others. I want to be a person of “Impact me, impact a nation” and I have made sure to practice this daily. With me growing everyday, I try as much to let my growth reach others mentally, physically, emotionally and in all ways I am possible of doing. I hope to reach out more to others and do much better with my goals and dreams.

  12. Stella Uju Agbachi

Thank you Ada Johnson for this opportunity. It is amazing how you’re impacting to the lives of many, especially in your motherland. I say thank you once again on behalf of many.
I have followed you and seen your are for real the main deal.
From the beginning of this year I had listed goals that I intend to accomplish, and hope atleast all will come through. One of them was gaining knowledge in IT skills and I was granted the privilege to learn the skills from Digital Witch. It was a tremendous experience, and a proud goal to tick.
I have taken courses in Cousera to deepen my skills and still do researches to learn, in order to teach others. This dream does not hault there.
For now I am deluge with impoverishment of funds to further training of the skills.
With the seed money, I will be able to own a Laptop, making it easier to navigate the IT world. Especially, specializing in Excel, SPSS, Data and Business software packages.
Being a graduate of Economics, becoming a Financial IT expert and transferring the knowledge to others is one of my goals to nail.
Another is to be an independent woman, with the luxury to be her own boss, work from home and not depend on the government salary which is not enough for my household. A serial entrepreneur and a fashion designer, I still strive everyday to go by. I believe this seed money will open doors to financial freedom more income avenues.

I pray to God and he tells me to keep pushing, I keep applying their skill one way or another, I have a vision of coming down to the United States, I applied for international passport, took months for the Nigerian immigration to fix that, had to bribe some officers to get it earlier than others, but luckily I got it, start scouting for companies around the world the get hired,

got hired by a company in Springfield Missouri, got my invitation to come down in 2022 November, still believing and trusting in God, that I won’t forsake him so he shouldn’t do so for me, the company isn’t big enough yet to accommodate me, but my boss said they’re still looking forward to the end of this year, but ion wanna keep waiting around like that, I want to go out side the world and grind it out, hopefully I’ll get hired by a company where my skills is be required, I believe if I get the Ada scholarship I’ll be able to add it and save up with the 500 bucks I get per month, maybe in a short period of time I’ll gather the amount needed to be out there and finally work on my dreams.

so talking about the Ada Core Value:

1: honesty: I keep it one 100 with em FHG company but still got my butt kicked by my so called friend, still I didn’t do anything nor say a word.

2: working Hard: talking about working hard you can call on me, I work over night and sleep by 7 am here and wake up back by 10 am, back to the grind, let me share how I work the whole of 2020 for the so called Organization, I must be at office before 8:30 am no late coming or you’ll pay fine of $50, office close by 4:00 pm, I got back home probably 5:00 pm, must be back at office by 8:00 pm in the evening for night, will go back home by 5:00 am the next day and be back to office again by 8:30 pm, Just to learn this skills I know Frfr

3: Hope: I never let go of that, my hope and faith is always strong, cause I communicate with God time to time, and I’ve test him to know if he does exist and he showed me that he truly does, you can ask me how or why did I say that

4: loyalty: if I’m not loyal I won’t spend a whole two years with a company ion know from no where and still listen and obey their rules, had over 5 Downline with the company. ( Downline are people you call into their business and teach em how to make money like you do)

5: Charity: I have a reason for revolving this around the company, cause what they did to me says it all, back then in 2021 January, in their office where they took us to in Akure, Ondo state from ilesha Osun state, all of us sleep on the wooden bench in the office, almost 40 boys in just a single flat, I had to rent and have about 5 people stay with me and I feed em, but ion know my friend is envy of me, which made him to go ahead and snitch me…

this are my core values, I believe if I get this scholarship even if it Canada I’ll go there and go work for some months or a year to gather up some funds to come down to the states

  16. ngene hilda oluebube

    SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY
During a family gathering, my step-uncle boldly proclaimed, “You do not have any shares or say in this family.” My name is Ngene Hilda Oluebube, and this moment marked the beginning of a transformative journey in my life. Hidden in the shadows, I listened to the weight of his words.

My father, the only son of his mother and the third wife of a thriving carpenter in our village, had always felt like an outsider in our own family. Following the passing of our grandparents, a bitter divide emerged among family members, particularly with regards to my father. It became painfully clear that they did not regard him as a true brother. I watched tears well up in his eyes as he knelt before his stepbrothers, who held influential positions as governors and chairmen in our state, seeking financial assistance.

It was in that moment that I made a solemn vow to myself: I would contribute financially to my family in any way I could. I resolved to become the brother, sister, mother, and father figure my father never had. Each day, I endeavored to lift his spirits, fully aware that, at such a young age, I could not fulfill his wishes.

My parents, despite their limited means, were steadfast in their commitment to ensuring that we received a high school education. Their unwavering love and constant encouragement instilled in me the profound importance of family unity.

As the eldest daughter in a family of eight, I matured swiftly and played a vital role in raising my siblings alongside my parents. My responsibilities grew, and I embraced them wholeheartedly.

Recognizing that I lacked substantial financial support, I embarked on a quest to secure my own future at a tender age. From purchasing textbooks to obtaining essential school supplies, I supported myself by selling foodstuffs and snacks within the school premises, performing odd jobs, completing assignments for classmates, and providing drawings in exchange for modest earnings. I also imparted these skills to my younger brother, ensuring that he could fend for himself as I prepared to complete high school ahead of him.

Upon finishing school, I secured a position as a sales manager. However, the income proved insufficient to support my family in Nigeria’s challenging economic environment, where even graduates received meager salaries, let alone an undergraduate like myself. Driven by the desire to achieve more, I explored various opportunities, working as a housemaid and even at a betting shop. I steadfastly resisted peer pressure and unwanted advances.

I always knew what I wanted. While working diligently to support my family, I saved enough money to enroll in pastry chef classes, despite initial reservations from my parents. With their support elusive, my determination persevered.

Balancing work and education, I encountered numerous hardships, often going to bed hungry. Nevertheless, I clung to hope, knowing that my relentless efforts would ultimately yield results. Following the completion of my classes, I commenced advertising my culinary skills and slowly began to acquire clients, striving to achieve the financial stability that had eluded me for years. At this point, I added one square meal to our menu, making it two square meals per day. I supported my siblings in school financially and assisted my mother in opening a roadside business.

To advance in my career, I saved for bartending and mixology classes, aiming for better opportunities. Despite my diligent efforts, I faced gender bias in Nigeria’s bartending scene, being disqualified from interviews and receiving low pay. This drives me to educate and raise awareness, advocate for change, and promote equal opportunities whenever possible.

Yet, I soon recognized the limitations of my skills and knew that I aspired to achieve more. My family depended on me, and I realized that higher education was essential to secure a better future for all of us. I yearned to attend college not only for my own growth but to ensure a stable future for my family and to pursue my aspirations.

    Short-Term Goal:
My immediate objective is to obtain industry certifications and attend specialized workshops and training programs to further enhance my culinary and mixology skills. This endeavor will allow me to gain recognition and credibility within the field. I plan to pursue certifications from renowned culinary and bartending institutions and participate in competitions and events related to these skills.

    Long-Term Goal:
My ultimate ambition is to establish a successful and sustainable career as a renowned chef, mixologist, or baker. I aspire to potentially own a restaurant, bakery, or cocktail bar, leveraging my extensive experience to build a loyal customer base and expand my business over time. My long-term vision also includes creating a school where I can teach my skills and, most importantly, provide free scholarships for less privileged individuals, much like I once was.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that I am a deserving candidate for this scholarship due to my unwavering dedication, passion, and commitment to my chosen field. Throughout my journey as a pastry chef and mixologist, I have consistently demonstrated my eagerness to learn and grow. I have faced and triumphed over numerous challenges, which have only further strengthened my determination to succeed, and I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity this scholarship provides. With this scholarship’s financial assistance, I am confident that I can excel academically and continue to contribute positively to my community and future profession.

Am grateful to Ada Johnson and the very few that sponsored this scholarship/seed money.
    Thank you and God
    bless you.

  18. I am Olori Shakirat, a Lawyer turned serial entrepreneur, and I’d love to be a beneficiary of the Ada Johnson 2023 Scholarship/Seed money Award.

I am a seasoned events and project Manager at Shaquise Events Management Enterprise, with over 7 years of management and planning experience. I create value by helping businesses and individuals achieve their set goals and plan towards a financial target. I have worked with hundreds of individuals and partnered with companies as well for events project delivery. I would say, I am a planner extraordinaire.

I also run a Savings Community (Ajo Credit) where we help trusted individuals pull funds for businesses, start ups, educational and other viable purposes. We currently have over a hundred registered members on the platform, these are people who believe in my credibility and hold my integrity in high esteem while trusting my ability to lead right. This community has been succeeding for over 4 years now and I can confidently say it has thrived thus far because of the core value of honesty and transparency I have employed from inception till now.

I have put in a lot of hard work over the years in sustaining these businesses, and I strongly see it headed for a global visibility, as I have high hopes in my prospects. We have also been charitable in the business by giving opportunities to youths to train and learn with us at no cost, some of whom now have their own trade/craft in Balloon artistry, fabric draping and decor, events planning and party styling.

If I am granted the opportunity to win this award, my aim is to channel the funds towards expansion of my events business to help increase our clientele base and have access to wider audience. It has been part of my plans to establish an event website and App for Shaquise Events housing the catalogue of all the great works and designs we have created over the years, while also serving as a learning hub for decorators, event planners and aspiring planners as well, I take huge inspiration from the Pinterest model here.

The website/App is also to serve as a one stop point for clients to source for party vendors, ranging from, catering, music band, Cocktails, drinks, finger foods, Mc, Dj services, wedding dresses and accessories and so on as we would also have a vendor listing section on the website and app(to be tagged: Pro Event vendors).
Myself and my team had kick started a Pro event vendor page on Instagram some years back which started out looking good initially, but had been a tough call to run as we do not have an official landing website page outside social media, making some clients a bit skeptical dealing with us.

My short term goal here is to establish an event service website and a App, where every and any service or item bordering on events can be gotten.
And my long term goal is to ensure that this service and the business thrives not only locally but also internationally, where Nigerians in diaspora who want to have an event here in Nigeria can have a trusted platform they log on to source their preferred vendors. Thereby establishing a global visibility for my business while also contributing largely to the events market industry in Nigeria.
This scholarship award would really make a huge impact in setting this project rolling for me if I am granted.

I believe I am the best candidate for this award as I see myself as an embodiment of all the core values as listed by Coach Ada, I am a very dogged goal getter, achiever and an impact maker, and I am sure to make the Ada Johnson team proud of what I would make of this seed money.
Also as a sign of gratitude, we would dedicate a section of the homepage on the website in recognition of the Ada Johnson sponsorship if I win this.

Lastly, I take this moment to appreciate the entire Ada Johnson team for putting out such a great opportunity to grow and thrive.

    Thank you.

  20. Victoria Orleans

In the quiet corners of life, where resilience meets ambition, I, a young girl, stand today with an unwavering determination to secure a brighter future. My journey has been marked by hurdles, yet I have embraced every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. Today, I reach out with an earnest plea for funding support to resurrect my dreams and pave a path to success.

In 2015, I completed my schooling, my dreams soaring high with aspirations of university education. However, my dreams were tethered by the cruel strings of financial constraints. With no external support, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I delved into the world of entrepreneurship with a small Poultry Farm, aptly named “Awuru Poultry,” which thrived and brought hope into my life. But life’s tempestuous waves, represented by a devastating flood, swept away the dreams I had meticulously nurtured. You can verify my past efforts on Instagram, where I documented my journey under the handle @awurupoultry.

Undeterred by the trials of fate, I embarked on a new path. I recognized the value of hard work and determination and chose to learn the art of dry cleaning by volunteering my time during weekdays. The desire to uplift my family and secure a brighter future for my siblings spurred me on. In my modest single-room apartment, shared with my siblings, I now wash and iron clothes, making the most of the limited resources at hand with the knowledge from your teachings on Instagram and the free gems you offer, Instead of waiting for a change, I worked tirelessly to make something for myself, aligning with your teachings of self-reliance.

Recently, I took the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, a significant step toward my goal of pursuing a university education after being home for nine years. To make this dream a reality, I need your support, not as a handout, but as an investment in a young girl’s unwavering determination to succeed.

The current exchange rate of the dollar to the Naira is 915, which translates to 366,000 Naira for the business fund. This funding is not just a financial boost but a lifeline that can transform my life and the lives of my siblings.

For my laundry business, I have carefully budgeted the allocation as follows:

    Iron: 13,000 Naira
    Stabilizer: 15,000 Naira
Standing Fan (to improve living conditions for my siblings): 15,000 Naira
    5 dozen Hangers: 25,000 Naira
    Generator: 100,000 Naira
    Total cost: 168,000

Additionally, for the revival of my Poultry Farm, the budget estimation is as follows:

    Baby chicks (100): 75,000 Naira
Chicken Feed (10 bags): 100,000 Naira
Chicken Drugs (Lasota, Vitamins, Gomboro Relief, Viral Care):
    Total Cost: 192,000 Naira

    Overall Cost: 360,000 Naira

If granted the support fund, I am committed to improving myself further. I plan to enroll in university, armed with a renewed sense of purpose and a stronger resolve to succeed. I will not only manage my laundry business efficiently but also oversee the Poultry Farm’s revival. This dual venture will not only secure a brighter future for me but also provide employment opportunities in my community.

  21. Victoria Orleans

In life, there are stories of folks like me, trying our best, dreaming big, and facing hardships with hope in our hearts. My name is Victoria Ewa Pobee-Orleans, a native of Cross River State Calabar and I am one such stories.
I am young girl navigating life’s turbulent waters with no safety net, but armed with the relentless spirit of perseverance. My graduation in 2015 marked a milestone, but the path to higher education was obscured by the looming cloud of financial scarcity. Yet, I chose not to falter. Instead, I embraced the ethos of hard work, an ethos that has since defined my existence.

In the earlier chapters of my life, I had once owned a flourishing Poultry Farm, lovingly named “Awuru Poultry.” Named After my Late Father, Its success was a testament to my dreams taking flight. However, fate had other plans, and in a cruel twist, a devastating flood swept away not just my livelihood but also the very dreams that had buoyed my spirit. You can find me on Instagram under the account @awurupoultry.

Yet, undeterred, I embarked on a new chapter. I stumbled upon the world of dry cleaning and, driven by an unrelenting resolve, dedicated my weekdays to acquire this skill, despite the absence of formal training. Today, in single-room apartment, shared with my cherished siblings, I diligently wash and iron clothes, a symbol of my unyielding determination to shape my destiny.

Over the years, I gleaned wisdom from the pearls of advice shared by you on Instagram. I refused to be passive in the face of adversity, opting instead to embrace the core values preached by Ada Johnson, the values of honesty, integrity, hard work, hope, loyalty, and charity, by working with my client and building relationships with them based on honesty, through my Poultry Farm I have been able to teach women and men how to start their own Poultry Farm Business for free, I have also been able to provide less privileged children here education and leadership skills for free to equip them like their counterparts.

Recently, I crossed a significant threshold by completing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, inching closer to my lifelong aspiration of higher education, after a disheartening hiatus of nine years. Today, I extend this heartfelt appeal not just for financial aid but for an opportunity to transform my dreams into reality.

Presently, the exchange rate stands at 915 Naira to a dollar, and I require 360,000 Naira from the Initial 366, 000 funding fee when converted to naira, to bridge the gap between my dreams and reality. This funding represents not just a financial lifeline, but a symbol of faith in my indomitable spirit.

To achieve my short-term and long-term goals, I’ve meticulously devised a budget plan for my laundry business:

    Iron: 12,000 Naira
    Stabilizer: 15,000 Naira
Standing Fan (to alleviate unbearable living conditions for my siblings): 15,000 Naira
    5 dozen Hangers: 25,000 Naira
    Generator: 100,000 Naira

For the rekindling of my Poultry Farm, the budget estimation is as follows:

    Baby chicks (100): 75,000 Naira
Chicken Feed (10 bags): 100,000 Naira
Chicken Medicine (Lasota, Vitamins, Gomboro Relief, Viral Care): 192,000 Naira

    Overall Cost: 360,000 Naira

With this support fund, I pledge to not only enhance my business acumen but also invest in my personal growth. I commit to diligently manage my laundry business while simultaneously resurrecting my Poultry Farm, thereby ensuring a brighter future for me and employment opportunities for my community.
I am the embodiment of resilience, a young spirit unbroken by adversity, driven by values, and fueled by dreams. Your support transcends mere financial aid; it symbolizes an unshakeable belief in a young girl’s unwavering spirit. I humbly stand before you as the ideal candidate for this funding, not merely due to necessity but because I carry within me a purpose, a burning determination, and an unyielding spirit. With your support, we can illuminate the path to a brighter tomorrow, proving that dreams, when fueled by relentless determination, can indeed become a radiant reality.

    *Introduction:*

I am Happiness Okere, a graduate of University of Portharcourt, department of Accounting. A determined and aspiring individual who believes in the power of core values. The Ada Johnson scholarship, with its emphasis on honesty/integrity, hard work, hope, loyalty, and charity, resonates deeply with my personal beliefs and aspirations. In this essay, I will outline how I embody these values, explain how I plan to use the scholarship to achieve both short and long-term goals, and make my case for why I am the best candidate for this scholarship.

    **Embodying Core Values:**

From a young age, I have understood the importance of honesty and integrity. Whether it was helping a friend in need or maintaining my academic integrity, I have consistently demonstrated these values in my actions. One instance that stands out is when I found a lost wallet with a substantial amount of money. Instead of keeping it, I immediately turned it in to the authorities, which ultimately led to its rightful owner being reunited with their belongings. This experience reinforced my commitment to honesty.

Hard work has been the cornerstone of my journey. I have consistently pursued excellence in my academic endeavors, often working late into the night to achieve my goals. My dedication has been recognized through academic awards and scholarships, which have allowed me to progress in my studies.

Hope, to me, is the belief in a brighter future. Growing up in a challenging environment, I maintained a positive outlook, believing that education could be my ticket to a better life. This hope has fueled my determination to succeed.

Loyalty and charity go hand-in-hand for me. I have volunteered at local charities, dedicating my time and resources to help those less fortunate. These experiences have enriched my life and reinforced the importance of giving back.

    **Scholarship Goals:**

In the short term, I plan to use the Ada Johnson scholarship to further my entrepreneurial aspirations. Currently, I am actively engaged in the E-commerce business, selling products in both Nigeria and Ghana.

This experience has been transformative, allowing me to understand the nuances of cross-border trade within Africa.

However, my vision extends beyond the borders of these two countries. I aspire to cover the entirety of Africa with my E-commerce ventures, bridging the gaps in access to quality products and creating a seamless shopping experience for customers across the continent.

The Ada Johnson scholarship funds will be instrumental in realizing this vision. They will enable me to purchase more products, expand my inventory, and invest in advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency of my operations. Additionally, a significant portion of the scholarship will be dedicated to running sponsored advertisements, which are pivotal in reaching a wider audience and achieving my business expansion goals.

My aim is not only to succeed as an entrepreneur but also to contribute to the economic growth of Africa by fostering cross-border trade and creating job opportunities. I firmly believe that this scholarship will play a vital role in turning this dream into a reality.

Most importantly, funds from this scholarship would help me get a laptop. As my phone, can’t handle the enormous tasks I laden it with, in the course of my studies and proposed journey into digital marketing.

As a student, I also run a petty business bu the side. My little profit helps me afford the essentials and other school materials. Winning this scholarship, would help boost my business and take it to the next level and also help me survive in school.

Life changing opportunities like this rarely come by and I would be immensely grateful if I win this.

    Thank you.
